¿Confundid@ con la Reforma Migratoria? / Confused About Migration Reform?

In English, Immigration by Ilse Grijalva

Migrant people, like me, are living a historic moment in the United States with the Senate debates on immigration reform, which started on June 10th.  This issue is of utmost importance to the Encuentro community because our main purpose is achieving social and economic justice for the immigrant Latino community and all of New Mexico.  We know that without a just, humane, and holistic reform, 11 million migrant people will remain vulnerable to attacks on our human rights.

Even still, how much do we know about the path currently being proposed for migrant reform? I confess, I don’t know much about this, but I want to reflect with you all and build motivation for us to stay informed and to follow closely what is happening around this historic moment. Some ways of following this closely are to know and understand decisions taking place in Congress, and more importantly to learn what communities like ours around the country, are doing to include their voice in the debates. Ultimately, it’s our lives, our future, and our family’s future that they will be deciding on in the Senate.

With so much information around us, it can be a little daunting. I’d like to share with you all some of the internet sites of organizations actively involved on these issues of relevance to all immigrants and those of us in support of migrant justice. This will help us maintain informed and to generally just help us find opportunities to take action by including our voices in the debates. Stay in communication with encuentronm.org, or through our Facebook site and you will continue finding the information you need, as well as a space to make history in the time of migrant reform.
