Our Mission

Encuentro’s mission is to transform New Mexico into a thriving community for ALL of its residents. We do this by engaging Latino immigrant families in educational opportunities that build skills for economic and social justice.

Encuentro’s mission is based upon a commitment to the belief that quality education should build both individual and community knowledge, and that with that knowledge comes individual and community power.  For Latino immigrants in the United States today, the importance of this belief cannot be understated, as immigrants and their families are increasingly struggling in the face of rampant social, political and economic injustice.

Encuentro transforms traditional educational approaches to ensure learning goes beyond building an individual skill to creating an opportunity to rebuild community.

Programs in adult education become entry points for building new relationships, sharing our experiences in the community, and linking to grassroots movements that allow us to use our new skills to benefit our families and our broader community.
