Our Community
Encuentro, which translated from Spanish means both a “meeting place” and an “experience,” is just that.
As a Latino immigrant community center located in the heart of Central New Mexico, Encuentro provides a welcoming place where immigrants can come together not only to develop skills, but to connect with one another to begin re-building community!
Encuentro is located in the historic neighborhood of Barelas in downtown Albuquerque. We share our building with two other immigrant-based organizations, El Centro de Igualdad y Derechos and the New Mexico Immigrant Law Center, which maximized our organizations' ability to collaborate and makes multiple resources available to the community in one location.
Encuentro has a small staff and contracts with a team of quality instuctors to provide our educational programs to over 150 adult students per semester.
Building leaders within the community is a key component to ensuring Encuentro remains focused on creating transformational educational opportunities. To this end, Encuentro has three primary bodies to guide our ongoing growth and development: CALi (Comite Assesor de Liderazgo), Board of Directors and Organizational Partners Advisory Committee.
Finally, none of Encuentro's work would be possible without the generous support of our local and national donors:
- WK Kellogg Foundation
- Mexican Consulate
- Frost Foundation
- UNM Health Sciences Center
- Solidago
- Individual private donors
