This past month, the first two tours of the building took place: one for staff and the other virtually with Tu Voz Digital.This is how we established a series of similar tours that will be taking place in the next few months in order to show the new building and its renovations to several of our audiences. Let’s keep in mind that our new home is under renovation and we are currently in the process of raising funds to continue our efforts to improve the facilities of this building that will house all of our programs. It should be noted that we took all covid measures during these tours.

El primer tour se llevó a  cabo el pasado 6 de agosto y fue dado a miembros del staff de Encuentro de la mano nuestra Directora Ejecutiva, Andrea Plaza y Directora de Desarrollo Julia Cusatis. Como primera actividad, se dio un recorrido por las instalaciones y así el equipo pudo trabajar en la visión de qué lugar ocupará cada programa en el edificio. Como parte de las actividades, el staff también  tuvo la oportunidad de “ reclamar el espacio” y escribir las cosas que se desea sucedan dentro de este nuevo hogar. iEs realmente maravilloso formar parte de este pedazo de historia de nuestra organización!.- comento Mayte Lopez, coordinadora del programa de asistente de salud en el hogar.

The first tour took place on August 6 and was given to members of the Encuentro staff by our Executive Director, Andrea Plaza, and Director of Development, Julia Cusatis. As a first activity, a tour of the facilities was given and thus the team was able to work on the vision of what place each program will occupy in the building. As part of the activities, the staff also had the opportunity to “claim the space” and write down the things that they want to happen within this new home. “It is truly wonderful to be a part of this piece of our organization’s history!”-Mayte Lopez said.

El Segundo tour, tuvo lugar el viernes 13 de agosto  y fue transmitido completamente en vivo en nuestro Fb live. Durante este tour virtual, se contó con la participación de miembros del staff, maestros y fue dirigido por nuestro grupo de periodistas comunitario, Tu Voz Digital.

The second tour took place on Friday, August 13 and was broadcast completely live on our Fb live. During this virtual tour, staff members and teachers participated, and it was led by our group of community journalists, Tu Voz Digital.

La transmisión fue llevada a cabo por Ilse Grijalva, nuestra coordindadora de comunicaciones quien interactúo con las más de 40 personas presentes en el enlace mientras Andrea Plaza, Julia Cusatir, nuestra coordinadora del programa de Asistente de Salud en el Hogar, Mayte Lopez, guiaron el recorrido por las instalaciones a la vez que interactuaba con ambas audiencias. Tu Voz Digital (Marisela Ramirez, Mario Aguilar, Carmen Ruiz, Lucero Tovar, Leslie Padilla y Josefina Gallardo)  jugó un papel muy importante durante este, nuestro primer tour en vivo ya que se dieron a la tarea de capturar el sentir de los presentes quienes respondieron preguntas como: ¿Qué esperas de este nuevo edificio?, ¿Qué es lo que más te emociona de este nuevo edificio? Entre otras. Nuestro tour virtual tiene ahora más de 1.1k vistas y puede encontrarlo en nuestra página de Fb:@encuentronm

The transmission was carried out by Ilse Grijalva, our communications manager who interacted with the more than 40 people present at the live transmission while Andrea Plaza, Julia Cusatis, and our coordinator of the Home Health Assistant program, Mayte Lopez, guided the tour of the facilities while interacting with both audiences. Your Digital Voice (Marisela Ramirez, Mario Aguilar, Carmen Ruiz, Lucero Tovar, Leslie Padilla and Josefina Gallardo) played a very important role during this, our first live tour, as they undertook the task of capturing the feelings of those present who answered questions such as: What do you expect from this new building? Hola mi nombre es Alondra Dominguez, soy una empleada estudiantil aquí en Encuentro. Yo nací en Michoacán, Mexico, pero he vivido la mayoría de mi vida en Albuquerque. Yo deseo ser pediatra, para ofrecerle un mejor futuro a la gente de Nuevo México. Mi plan ahora es estudiar en la Universidad de Nuevo Mexico, y luego irme a la escuela de medicina.
El tipo de trabajo que hago en Encuentro involucra tareas de oficina como metiendo información a la base de datos y ayudando en el frente tomando y recibiendo llamadas, y archivando carpetas de los estudiantes.

MEET YOUR NEW EXTRACURRICULAR EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS!
Hello my Name is Alondra Dominguez , I’m an work-study here in Encuentro. I was born in Michoacán, Mexico, but lived the majority of my life here in Albuquerque. I desire to become a pediatrician so that I can offer a better future to the people of New Mexico. My plan right now is to study at the University of New Mexico and then go to medical school.
The type of work that I am currently doing at Encuentro involves tasks like getting information into the database, helping on the front receiving and taking calls, and archiving student folders.

¡Yo estoy bien contento de ser parte de la familia Encuentrolera!

Mi nombre es John y soy el nuevo Asistente de Medios Comunitarios aquí en Encuentro.

Estoy muy emocionado de estar trabajando en Encuentro porque voy a estar trabajando solamente con personas dedicadas a la comunidad y individuos de carácter altruista que comparten la misma meta de desarrollar una comunidad inmigrante fuerte. Toda mi vida yo e vivido en Albuquerque, Nuevo Mexico, pero mis padres migraron de Mexico y muchos de mis amigos son inmigrantes de raíces mexicanas/hispanas y por eso es una comunidad que toma un lugar muy especial en mi corazón.

Ahorita yo estoy asistiendo la Universidad de Nuevo Mexico y estudiando Comunicación y Periodismo. Yo recibí mi licenciatura de asociado en Sistemas de Información de la Computadora del Colegio Comunitario de Nuevo Mexico Central (CNM por sus siglas en ingles). Entonces, yo con mucho gusto estoy dispuesto a compartir mis conocimiento en cualquier pedido relacionado con computación y medios de comunicación.

I’m so excited to be a part of the Encuentro family!

My name is John and I’m the new Community Media Assistant here at Encuentro.

I’m very excited to be working here at Encuentro because I’m going to be working with nothing, but community-minded and altruistic individuals whose shared goal is to better the immigrant community. I have lived in Albuquerque, New Mexico my whole life, but my parents migrated from Mexico and I have many Mexican/hispanic friends who are immigrants so the Immigration community holds a special part in my heart.

I am currently attending the University Of New Mexico and studying Communication & Journalism. I also have my associates degree in Computer Information Systems from Central New Mexico Community College. So anything related to computers and media I’m excited to share my knowledge with the community!

Get to Know our Childcare Program

While parents are in class, their children are having fun and learning in our childcare program. Encuentro provides childcare for our students so they can come to class and not worry about finding someone to watch over their children. The children in our care regularly learn handicrafts and a develop skills that will help in their daily lives.

Bienvenidos y bienvenidas al nuevo año escolar aquí en Encuentro!

Soy Anne y soy la nueva especialista de recursos comunitarios/navegadora de Pathways. Me da mucho gusto ver todas las caras de l@s estudiantes aquí en Encuentro empezando las clases del semestre. Estoy muy emocionada de estar en Encuentro. Yo vine a trabajar en Encuentro porque vi que tiene una misión dedicada a la justicia social y la comunidad. Antes de venir aquí a Encuentro he trabajado con la comunidad inmigrante en otros lugares tal como Republica Dominicana, Indiana, Canada, y Kentucky.

Es un placer poder trabajar en Encuentro porque tengo la oportunidad de participar con una comunidad trabajadora, y soñadora. Estoy con ansias de conocerlos este semestre.

Mi trabajo aqui en Encuentro es trabajar con el programa de “Pathways”. En el programa de Pathways trabajamos contigo para enfrentar asuntos o barreras de:

• guarderia
• violencia domestica
• diabetes
• cobros medicos
• abuso o uso de drogas
• transporte
• licencias de conducir/I.D.
• educacion/GED
• vision
• costo de medicamentos
• salud mental
• servicios de salud
• y mas!

En cuidar de nosotros es también ser parte de la justicia social, porque tenemos que preservar nuestra salud y bienestar para seguir en la lucha.  Entonces, no se olvide que en comenzar el año escolar para usted y/o sus hijo/as, es bueno platicar con alguien acerca de hasta las barreras más pequeñas que enfrenta.

Me pueden llamar para sacar una cita para hablar de su situación y hacerme cualquier pregunta que tengan.

Welcome to the new school year here at Encuentro!

My name is Anne and I am the new Community Resource Specialist/Pathways Navigator.

I was excited to work at Encuentro in part because of their dedication to community and social justice. Before working here I have worked with the immigrant community in many other places including the Dominican Republic, Indiana, Canada and Kentucky.

Here at Encuentro I work with the Pathways program. In the Pathways program we work with you to confront barriers and issues of:

• childcare
• domestic violence-diabetes
• medical debt
• drug use/abuse
• transportation
• driver’s license/I.D.
• education/GED
• vision
• medication costs
• mental health
• medical services
• and other things!

In taking care of ourselves we are also participating in social justice, because we have to preserve our health and well-being to fight for another day. Remember that at the beginning of the school year, whether it’s you or your children who are heading back to school, it’s good to talk with someone about even the smallest barriers.
